Of course we'll be off again to Elba, the charming, sleepy island
in the Mediterranean Sea and the scene of Napoleon's first exile. Elba
has proven to be such a popular ABeR destination that we've had to add
many more dates. We are now proud to present "Elba in Spring", an absolutely
perfect time to visit. When the island flower, the "macchia", is in full
bloom, this is the time to pack your bags and prepare yourself for the
incredible island experience of Elba!
Itinerary: Trip by bus from Berlin or Hamburg via Munich - Innsbruck,
Austria - Sterzing, Italy - Pisa - Piombino, by ferry to Portoferraio,
by bus to Lacona;
Excursion across the island, climbing of the Monte Capane, visit of
the Volteraio fortress, swimming in the sulphur lake, visits to the villages
of Portoferraio and Porto Azzuro, excursion to Napoleon's residencies,
dancing at the local discotheques, excursion to various mountain villages.
By bus back to the harbor of Portoferraio, by ferry to Piombino, by bus
back home via Pisa - Verona - Sterzing - Munich to Hamburg or Berlin.
Accommodations:
One night on bus with reclining seats or futon-type
sleeping area, in Lacona at camping site or in bungalows under pine

Meals: For meals you should expect to spend approx. € 15 per day

Vacation in Napoleon's Backyard

We are now proud to present "Elba in Spring", an absolutely perfect time to visit. When the island flower, the "macchia", is in full bloom, this is the time to pack your bags and prepare yourself for the incredible island experience of Elba!
Our camp will be laid out in terraces directly under a beautiful green pine grove in Lacona, on the most varied beach of Elba. This wide, sandy expanse is known among the locals as "Spassia Grande". We'll be completely surrounded by a very austere and powerful countryside, dominated by steep rock-facades, jagged cliffs, and beautiful island flowers, not to mention the white beaches and foamy surf.
The campsite will be fully equipped with sanitary facilities, a grocery store, a bar and a fine restaurant. Right nearby are volleyball courts and a table tennis area. The village of Lacona has several pizza parlors, beach cafes and grocery stores. For those who would prefer apartments, we've taken care of that too!! Only a short distance from the campsite are very comfortable, modern apartments (with cooking facilities) for 3,4, or 6 people.
Needless to say, there will be more than enough opportunity to relax, surf, snorkel, cycle or just plain relax. The adventure-lovers in our group will certainly take advantage of our hike over the 3,300 foot-tall Mount Capane. Instead of taking the marked path, we'll cross right over the top of the mountain. From here, you'll be able to enjoy the panorama of the area stretching between Corsica and mainland Italy.
We'll go down the other side along a jungle-like river bed until we finally reach the bottom. Don't despair if your feet are killing you...our bus will be waiting at the bottom to take us back along the coast to our camp!
During the summer, we'll offer you a day-long sailing trip along the coast. In addition to that, we'll organize a nature hike so that you can learn about the animal and plant life on the island.
We've also had a lot of success with our night hike to the other end of the island. We'll reach a beautiful deserted beach early in the morning. After a lively beach-breakfast, we'll board a waiting boat that will take us back to our campsite.
Whether you feel like going on an excursion to the charming mountain
village of Capolivere, making a shopping trip to the market in Porto Azzuro,
taking a dip in the healing waters of the green sulphur lake or going on
a horseback ride...there is something for everyone here in Elba.

Finally!! After an extraordinary amount of wheeling and dealing, waiting and watching... our determination has paid off! ABeR can now offer spanking new bungalows to our world-weary travelers.
Right in the shade of a picturesque pine grove, our new bungalows will offer the most in modern comfort, all the while retaining an island transcendence and privacy you've only dreamed of...until now. In addition to this, they are located in a perfect area: the Mediterranean Sea and the sandiest beach on the entire island are only 50 footsteps away!
If you're still not convinced about the comfort of our new accommodations, let us take the time to describe them with a bit more detail. In each bungalow, we've set up two different living areas. Each living area has 3 bedrooms, 2 showers, private bathrooms and a kitchen. A sliding door connects one of the bedrooms to the kitchen. Each bungalow accommodates 6-8 people. There's even a shady terrace surrounded by tall pine trees to protect you from the Mediterranean sun. Our well-equipped kitchens include two separate refrigerators (just to make sure that everything stays cold!).
Bed linens or sleeping bags should be brought along, as should bathroom linens. Other than that, we'll supply everything: blankets, pillows, dishes, silverware, glasses, pots and pans. The bungalows are also equipped with 220 V electricity. Each person should leave a $30 deposit with the receptionist at his/her arrival. There will be a $50 cleaning charge if you don't want to clean the apartment yourselves. We'll take care of the electricity costs, gas and heating. You'll even have access to washing machines. Not bad at all!
