Fall in Love with the Green Coast of Spain
Over the years, millions of European tourists have flocked to Spain's Costa del Sol in search of sunny skies and sterling white beaches. What they too often found instead, was, scorching sun and overcrowded beaches. In fact, because of its particular popularity with German tourists, the natives jokingly renamed the area "the German barbecue". We at Alternativ Bus Reisen, took it upon ourselves to give you an alternative to this kind of vacation, and we believe we've found it in the Costa Verde. Here on the "green coast" of the Atlantic, there's hardly a tourist to be seen. Furthermore, thanks to the lush vegetation, you can also get a respite from the blazing Spanish sun!
Since we'll be staying on the Atlantic coast, you'll be experiencing a different climate than on the other Spanish beach areas. This results in an endless array of vegetation that can't be found otherwise in Spain. Stunning cloud formations will form over the Pico mountains, giving you more than enough photo opportunities. The Costa Verde is much more than sun and beach! Between the tall mountain peaks and the imposing Atlantic valleys, your eyes will be treated to an fantastic variety of changing scenery. Forests, which grow directly next to the beaches, spring up magically like miniature jungles. In addition, there are beautiful valleys and fields, filled with colorful flowers and ferns. In the adjacent mountains, you'll find picturesque lakes surrounded by seemingly hand-sculpted rock formations.
We'll be setting up camp in the midst of the charming small town of Celorio, located between the towns of Santander and Oviedo. Our camping area is equipped with immaculately clean sanitary facilities and is only two steps from the beach, thus giving you no excuses for not enjoying the ocean. Especially noteworthy is the fact that the beach is void of such tourist trappings as beach chairs and umbrellas. If there are any tourists in the immediate area, they are normally Spanish. The finely textured sand is absolutely perfect for a quick game of volleyball or just plain lounging around. What are you waiting for?
Of course we haven't forgotten the surfers in our group! The waves from the Atlantic will be a guaranteed challenge to you, as they are usually sharp and unpredictable. After a long day of swimming, sunbathing and surfing, the next logical step is a campfire dinner with a bottle or two of sangria.
You might also be in the mood for a bit of adventure in the "jungles" or mountains. We're prepared to offer you day-trips (included in price) to the caves and grottos of Ribadesella. You can also spend hours and hours walking among the enchanting mountain lakes and flower-filled valleys of the Pico Mountains taking in the beautiful scenery. If you're feeling like visiting the nearby fishing villages, with their daily markets teeming with local specialties, our bus is always at your disposal.
